Racing Background

Martin was strongly influenced to become a jockey by former champion jockey, Pat Eddery.

Martin has been lucky enough to ride horses such as Casual Look, winner of the 2003 Vodafone Oaks, at Epsom Downs and of course 2005 Dewhurst and 2006 Derby winner Sir Percy.

Amongst Martin’s favourite horses are the long-term campaigner Persian Punch, and Vodafone Oaks winner, Casual Look, but his favourite horse is triple G1 winner PHOENIX REACH. Phoenix has the most incredible cruising speed and is capable of winning over shorter distances at the highest level.

Martin highly respects Pat Eddery, and describing him as a “great athlete and a nice bloke”.

During his riding career, Martin has incurred no serious injuries, however, he says that he has had “a few minor scrapes”!

Other Hobbies and Interests

Martin finds little time to play other sports, but is a keen supporter of Everton FC.

If he could be anyone else within sport, he would choose to be the Man United and England striker, Wayne Rooney.

Martin’s star sign is Gemini.

He enjoys listening to music by Rod Stewart.

His favourite film is ‘Goodfellas’.

His hero outside of sport is actor Robert De Niro.
